According to a recent French study, cannabidiol – a non-psychotrophic component of the cannabanoid chemicals – could possibly be effective in preventing bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), a.k.a. Mad Cow disease, and other prion diseases. The chemical works by inhibiting the development of prion proteins in some mammals, but it is still unclear what the effects are in humans.
